About Wildlife & Turtle Friendly Lighting
Artificial lighting used in populated areas has been known to affect local wildlife in a variety of different ways. In particular, sea turtles, when coming to shore to lay their eggs on beach have a particularly negative side effect to light pollution. When the turtles hatch, they are instinctively guided to the brightest horizon which is typically the light from the sky. When we use artificial light near the beaches, the light can disorientate the baby turtles and guide them inland instead of the ocean. Artificial light has been also known to affect birds, frogs, bats, and even humans.
Using wildlife friendly LED lighting can prevent this disruption to animal’s natural circadian rhythm. Our LED light fixtures operate in a special wavelength of light that does not mimic daylight and allows for lighting at night without disrupting natural processes.
